“College Colors Day”– the annual event when fans are urged to sport the colors of their favorite college — is set for Aug. 29, but Texas A&M University will celebrate the 2014 College Colors Day a day early on Aug. 28 to coincide with the football season opener with the University of South Carolina.
Texas A&M is participating in the Spirit Cup competition and is asking for fan support to help win this year’s cup. Prizes include a $10,000 donation towards the general scholarship fund as well as a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the College Football Playoff National Championship game.
The Spirit Cup is a points-based rivalry competition that utilizes social media platforms to crown its champion. Aggies fans can earn points for Texas A&M by showcasing their school spirit on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #collegecolors and #12thMan. The school with the most points at the end of the competition will be crowned the Spirit Cup champion and receive a $10,000 donation towards its general scholarship fund.
“College Colors Day” is officially observed on the Friday before most college teams begin their football seasons, but this year the Aggies and the Gamecocks kick off on the prior evening–formally launching the nation’s top-tier football season, as well as being featured in the first gridiron game for the Southeastern Conference’s new SEC Network.
Initiated by The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) and NCAA Football, College Colors Day serves as a way to increase public awareness about the achievements and contributions of higher education. Hundreds of colleges and universities across the nation participate each year. On that day, fans across the United States are encouraged to wear the apparel of their favorite college or university throughout the day.

Winners of both the Spirit Cup competition and the College Football Playoff sweepstakes will be announced on College Colors Day, Friday, Aug.29, via CollegeColorsDay.com.
