Mark Hussey Named Interim President Of Texas A&M University, Effective Jan. 14

The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) Board of Regents has named Dr. Mark A. Hussey as interim president of Texas A&M University, effective Jan. 14.Mark Hussey

The regents voted unanimously for Hussey’s selection upon the recommendation of Chancellor John Sharp.

Hussey, who holds the joint positions of vice chancellor for TAMUS and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences for Texas A&M University, will serve in the presidency while a national search is being conducted to fill the position being vacated by R. Bowen Loftin on Jan. 13.

Hussey joined Texas A&M in 1983 as an assistant professor at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Weslaco. Two years later he moved to the University’s Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, where he rose through the academic ranks to full professor and was named head of the department in 2001. In 2005 he was named associate director of programs for Texas A&M AgriLife Research and was subsequently promoted to the directorship of that agency. He was named to his current joint positions in 2008.

He earned his undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Illinois and master’s and Ph.D. in plant breeding at Texas A&M.
