Campus Voices: Elizabeth Andrasi
Meet Elizabeth Andrasi: Elizabeth Andrasi ’11 is the president/CEO for the 62nd Memorial Student Center Council. A native of Austin, she will graduate in December with her bachelor of arts in psychology and is enrolled in the George Bush School of Government and Public Service.
You are beginning in the middle of someone else’s term as MSC president. How difficult has that been for you?
It is true that my tenure as president began a little differently than most, but I have been involved in many aspects of the MSC since I was a freshman, and because of that the transition has been very smooth. There have been challenging moments as I needed to be brought up to speed quickly, but I have a great team and the advantage of having worked with many of them for years. I love the MSC and all that it offers to our campus as well as what it means to Aggies everywhere.
What will happen when you graduate in December?
I will be pursuing a Certificate in Nonprofit Management at the Bush School during the spring semester and will therefore still be in College Station fulfilling my role as president. It is my intention to begin graduate school in the fall of 2012, and the certificate courses will also transfer to fulfill some of my elective credits. This is ideal in many ways and allows my term as president to be uninterrupted.
What would you like to accomplish during your term?
I look forward to continuing to highlight and share the impressive programming that the 1,300 students involved in the MSC this year are working so hard to produce. Many people think of the MSC only as a building, but it is our committees and students that bring life to the building. They have continued to provide opportunities for service, the performing arts, speaker series and international engagement to campus even while we have been undergoing renovations.
It is another goal of mine to continue to connect with our former students and share with them what is going on here in the MSC. I love having the opportunity to share how the MSC is continuing to serve the campus, and I am so grateful to the many former students who support and enhance what we do. The MSC is a home to so many. It is at the heart of the Aggie family as well as the star of so many people’s greatest memories of their time here at Texas A&M, and I love getting to hear specifically what that means to individuals.
I also have the opportunity to represent our students as we come to the end of our renovation process. The newly renovated MSC is going to be a state-of-the-art space that will be able to serve our student population of almost 50,000. It will be a place for visitors and former students to return to and reminisce about their time here, as well as create new memories. I am glad to report that the traditional and memorial aspects of the building have been maintained and enhanced, while we also equip the MSC to serve as the student union for our campus once again – a place of life, activity and honor.
Are you particularly looking forward to any MSC events?
I am really looking forward to helping get everyone, current and former students as well as visitors to campus, excited about the rededication of the MSC which will take place on Muster of this year. This is a special time because the MSC was originally dedicated on Muster in 1951, and I am really looking forward to honoring that piece of our history while allowing the Muster events of 2012 to shine and utilize this amazing new space.
